World Music B.A.
Open fall term only. The Undergraduate Program in Ethnomusicology combines hands-on musical experience with academic study to explore the rich variety of musical expressions throughout the world. During their four years of study, undergraduate majors in ethnomusicology take: a) courses in musicianship geared toward understanding, and being able to "hear," musical phenomena from various world traditions; b) survey courses of world music cultures; c) courses in specific musical cultures; and d) courses in the performance of specific musical traditions. B.A. students also take classes in theory and methods in ethnomusicology, analysis of traditional music, and anthropology of music.
