University Majors
Mathematics, Applied B.A.The Department of Mathematics offers undergraduate major programs, in both Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, leading to the A.B. degree. These programs provide excellent preparation for graduate study in schools of business, education, law, and medicine, as well as for advanced study in mathematics, statistics, computer science, industrial engineering and operations research, logic, physics, economics, etc. They also prepare students (particularly those who have included some numerical analysis, statistics, and computer science courses in their programs) for post-baccalaureate positions in industry, government, and finance. In addition, a major in Mathematics is a superb liberal arts major for those who are seeking an enriching general education not specifically tied to particular vocational goals.
