Chemistry is called the central science. It addresses problems raised in related fields such as biology, geology, physics and engineering. Chemists attack such problems, by analyzing substances, synthesizing new materials, and by measuring their properties. They also investigate biochemical systems. The B.S. in Chemistry is designed to prepare students who desire: (a) to pursue graduate work in chemistry; (b) to work in industry or government laboratories, or (c) to work in the fields of technical sales, hazardous materials testing and handling, chemical literature, or chemical patents.
