NOTE: Fall 2017 is the last term for which transfer students can apply to Psychology, B.A. at UCSB. This major is being replaced by Psychological and Brain Sciences, B.S.
Psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. Psychologists are concerned with those biological, cognitive, and social factors that influence how humans and other animals function within their environments. Psychology at UCSB is a laboratory science that is grounded in experimental research methods and statistics. Courses are offered in the broad areas of perception and performance, cognitive psychology, biopsychology, social psychology, and developmental psychology. Students have the opportunity to complete coursework in each of the major areas of psychology and to gain experience in psychological research methods. Transfer students are admitted to pre-major status until prerequisites are satisfied.
