Music B.M.

The Bachelor of Music degree, with emphases in various performance disciplines, is a professional degree, open by audition to highly qualified performance students. The program of study is focused more intensely on performance accomplishment, with fewer General Education requirements than the B.A. degree. Applicants seeking admission to a Bachelor of Music performance emphasis are required to pass an entrance audition. The core music theory, musicianship, analysis and music history courses are the same as for the B.A. Music major. The various performance B.M. programs all require active participation in ensembles, some of which are specified for certain programs, including orchestra or wind ensemble for orchestral instruments, choir and opera workshop for voice, piano duets for piano, and chamber music for all instruments. The Bachelor of Music degree is offered in the following emphases: Bassoon, Cello, Clarinet, Double Bass, Flute, French Horn, Oboe, Percussion, Piano, Trombone, Trumpet, Tuba, Viola, Violin, Voice.
