The Department of Mathematics provides courses of study that introduces students to the fundamentals of mathematics and allow them to master the most important parts of the subject, both pure and applied. It leads doctoral students to the frontiers of mathematical research, where they can begin to push back those frontiers. This new degree will provide the necessary training and skill set to produce quality candidates for positions within actuarial firms, the government and research organizations.
