Middle Eastern Studies\B.A.

The Middle Eastern Studies Program focuses on the history and culture of the region from circa 300 C.E. to the present day. It includes the study of the peoples with cultural and personal roots in the region, especially those who immigrated to the U.S. The undergraduate major is designed primarily for (1) students seeking a general education and desiring a special emphasis in this geographic area from the medieval to the modern period, (2) those who plan to live and work in the Middle East and whose careers can be aided by a knowledge of the peoples, languages, history, and institutions of the region, (3) those who seek background knowledge because they intend to work with people of Middle Eastern heritage in the U.S. and (4) students preparing for academic study at the graduate level in the various disciplines pertaining to the Middle East.
