University Majors

University of California, Irvine
Comparative Literature, B.A.

Comparative Literature majors study literatures from around the globe and across history. While they read novels, plays, poems and related literary artifacts written in English, emphasis is placed on works originally composed in other languages, usually in translation. Comparative Literature majors are taught how to think critically about their objects and methods, and learn the skills required to negotiate - and to enjoy - a multi-cultural world.
