University Majors

University of California, Davis
Music A.B.

A major in music teaches you to explore and understand the history, theory and performance of music. Your professors and lecturers are active, internationally recognized researchers, performers, and composers. Students work closely with prominent Artists-in-Residence, who visit the campus each year. You`ll also have the chance to perform with a variety of ensembles including the symphony orchestra, band, chorus or smaller ensembles. Department facilities include an excellent music library (scores and recordings); an electronic music studio; an instrument collection including historical keyboards, symphonic instruments, and instruments from around the world; practice and rehearsal rooms; and the new Pitzer Center Classroom and Recital Hall (opening Fall 2016). Several department ensembles perform quarterly in the prestigious Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, and students benefit from high standards of mentorship from their applied and academic instructors and professors.
