University Majors

University of California, Davis
French A.B.

French is spoken in all corners of the world; in several European countries; Tahiti; parts of Canada, Africa, the Caribbean and South America; and is used as a diplomatic, commercial, or second language by hundreds of millions. The curriculum in the UCD French major encompasses a wide array of courses in literature, language, and culture. You may take courses in French and Francophone literatures from the Middle Ages through the twenty-first century; theoretical and applied linguistics; and the history and culture of nearly all geographic regions of the French-speaking world. Participation in one of our education abroad programs is strongly encouraged, giving students direct access to the university and cultural life at host cities in France, Morocco, and Senegal. The program prides itself on small classes and close interactions with faculty from different disciplines.
