Design A.B.

The UC Davis Department of Design, the only comprehensive academic design unit in the University of California system, delivers a research focused undergraduate (A.B.) curriculum that fully integrates design history, theory and criticism, with design thinking, making, writing, visual literacy, and creative practice. Studio courses are practice based and include a variety of design disciplines including: exhibition, fashion, information, industrial, interior architecture, product, sustainability, textiles, visual communication (digital, environmental, and print). All areas of study incorporate the history and theory of design as well as an exploration of social and environmental issues with a human-centered approach.The department has dedicated studios and computer labs where projects can be constructed in a collaborative environment. Creativity, development of thoughtfully developed ideas, and the ability to communicate design concepts are the talents and skills that are encouraged in the UC Davis Department of Design.
