University Majors

California State University, Stanislaus
English B.A.

Many career options are open to students of English, including teaching, journalism, publishing, advertising, and writing. Students find that studying English provides excellent preparation for postgraduate study and for careers in the legal professions, government, business, and industry.
The various programs of the department are designed to provide students with the skills essential for fluent and mature expression in their chosen subject fields. Courses in literature and film familiarize students with important literary works and forms. Courses in Rhetoric and the Teaching of Writing (RTW) prepare students to be excellent writers and editors. Courses in pre-credential programs prepare future teachers for the public schools. In all of the English courses students are encouraged to develop informed and independent critical thinking abilities and the skills to communicate articulately in both oral and written modes.
