Recreation Administration B.S. Community/Commercial Recreation & Tourism Option
The goal of the Department of Recreation, Hospitality, and Parks Management is to prepare ethical and competent professionals in service industries including recreation, parks, tourism, events, and hospitality. Students will acquire the latest methods and techniques, as well as a profound understanding of the philosophical and historical foundations, of these industries. Students will learn to be inquisitive and receptive to varying points of view, proficient in a broad spectrum of managerial technology tools, skilled in communication and problem-solving, knowledgeable about sustainable management, and motivated to positively impact their communities.
Students in the Community/Commercial Recreation and Tourism Option may specialize in public, semi-public, volunteer, private, commercial, resort management, military and employee recreation. The recent curricular emphasis on tourism prepares students to provide diverse tourism programming for local, regional, state and federal organizations and agencies including visitor and convention bureaus, economic development agencies, chambers of commerce, and a wide variety of private and non-profit businesses. This programming includes festivals and event management, tourism marketing and promotions, conference and meeting planning, a regional tourism development among others. Within the option, students may focus on the advising patterns in Tourism, Community/Programming and Commercial Recreation.
