Recreation Administration B.S. Event Management Option

The goal of the Department of Recreation, Hospitality, and Parks Management is to prepare ethical and competent professionals in service industries including recreation, parks, tourism, events, and hospitality. Students will acquire the latest methods and techniques, as well as a profound understanding of the philosophical and historical foundations, of these industries. Students will learn to be inquisitive and receptive to varying points of view, proficient in a broad spectrum of managerial technology tools, skilled in communication and problem-solving, knowledgeable about sustainable management, and motivated to positively impact their communities.

The Special Event and Tourism (SET) option is designed to prepare students for careers in the event management profession and the tourism industry. Event management encompasses all types of events, such as conferences, conventions, exhibitions, festivals, and fundraising, political, religious, social, and sporting events as well as numerous other special events. Tourism jobs can be found in a multitude of industries: airlines, amusement parks, casinos, convention and visitors bureaus, cruise lines, destination management companies, hotels, museums, resorts, restaurants, tour operators, travel agencies, and wineries, just to name a few. The program equips students with a profound understanding of philosophical and historical foundations of leisure-services in general, and up-to-date specialized knowledge and skills in event and tourism management, which enable them to competently undertake management positions in a wide-range of event and tourism industries, both within the United States or elsewhere in the world.
