University Majors

California State University, Chico
Natural Sciences B.A. General Biology Option

The B.A in Natural Sciences is designed to provide training for students with broad science interests that cut across departments. The program is a collaborative effort that combines the strengths of faculty from several departments to offer a strong background in the natural sciences, a concentration in one specific content area, and the professional knowledge and skills needed to be successful in a chosen profession. The 45-unit requirement is lower than most degrees in the College of Natural Sciences, allowing students the time and freedom to take other courses as required or recommended depending on future career plans.

The B.A. in Natural Sciences provides an excellent preparation for teaching science at the intermediate school level, teaching introductory high school science or working as an elementary science specialist. If a student is interested in becoming an educator at a zoo, botanic garden, arboreta, aquarium, science museum, observatory, nature center, preserve, state park or national forest, then the B.A. in Natural Sciences may be the perfect program. The program also provides training for students who intend to work in interdisciplinary arenas such as environmental law, science policy, science writing, scientific illustrating, environmental advocacy, business consulting, and sustainability.
