Music B.A. with Music Education Emphasis

The Music Department offers coursework leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree. Three main career paths - music education, music industry studies, and music performance - are available through the department''''''''s five emphasis areas. The Department presents and represents the complex tapestry of contemporary American musical life, showing a balanced view of the musical contributions of both genders and the various nationalities and ethnicities of the state`s population.

The Cal Poly Music Education Option is our most successful program in terms of career placement. For many years, we have placed 100% of our graduates who have sought careers in music education

The degree program provides the necessary coursework and performance opportunities to prepare the student for a teacher credential program. Students are presented with a broad based curriculum in both instrumental and vocal music education. They are given a variety of hands-on experiences such as Directed Field Experience in Music Education, Instrumental and Vocal Fundamental Classes and Conducting. In addition, all students participate in ethnic, jazz and traditional music classes and performing ensembles.
