California Polytechnic University, Pomona
Welcome to the Department of History at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. The Department currently has fourteen award-winning tenured or tenure-track faculty. With experts in European, Asian, African, Russian, Latin American, United States, and California History, as well the History of Islam and the Middle East and the History of Science and Technology, the Department offers a wide array of general education and specialized courses. The Department offers a major in history leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree, with one track designed for History/Social Science High School teachers, as well as a minor in history and a minor in Latin-American Studies.
The regular History major provides a general introduction to the discipline of History. It allows students to choose courses that best fit their interests and future ambitions. At the end of their academic career, graduates will have learned how to design, research, produce, and present a historical research project that meets the standards of practicing historians.
All of the History Department`s courses are designed to encourage students to seek out and better understand relationships between past and contemporary social, political, and cultural issues, and to provide perspective on the issues, topics, and materials that students may study in other programs within the university.
The department`s Master`s program helps primary and secondary school teachers deepen their knowledge of history and historical research methods.
