History B.A. with Pre-Credential Subplan/Option
Welcome to the Department of History at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. The Department currently has fourteen award-winning tenured or tenure-track faculty. With experts in European, Asian, African, Russian, Latin American, United States, and California History, as well the History of Islam and the Middle East and the History of Science and Technology, the Department offers a wide array of general education and specialized courses. The Department offers a major in history leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree, with one track designed for History/Social Science High School teachers, as well as a minor in history and a minor in Latin-American Studies.
The Pre-credential option provides the same training as History major. In addition, it provides content training in specific topics mandated by the State of California`s Framework for Social Science and History. Pre-credential option graduates are content-ready for the pursuit of a single-subject credential in History/Social Science and do not have to take the CSET test in History/Social Science.
All of the History Department`s courses are designed to encourage students to seek out and better understand relationships between past and contemporary social, political, and cultural issues, and to provide perspective on the issues, topics, and materials that students may study in other programs within the university.
The department`s Master`s program helps primary and secondary school teachers deepen their knowledge of history and historical research methods.
